Reflecting on Our 2025 Goals
By Vicki Ronchette

If you are a regular here at Show Dog Prep School you probably already know that I am big on goal setting. As we prepare for the New Year I start thinking about my goals for the next year. Before I can start thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2026, I need to first establish how I did with my 2025 goals.

For me it is helpful to have a visual tool to help me stay on focus. So at the end of each December I look at my last years vision board and create a new one for the upcoming new year. I can’t tell you how helpful this is. Part of accomplishing our goals is first identifying our goals very clearly and specifically. The vision board is great for this. I like to use photos. This is my past years vision board and I have added check marks to show you how it allows me to see my progress.

Each photo on my board represents a goal. In this case:

  • Breeding Lizzo – we bred Lizzo and got a beautiful litter and kept two puppies
  • Showing Sunshine – she finished last month
  • Getting Merriweather on a med/supplement program that works for her – we did this and she is doing great
  • Spending more time with my newly retired husband – we took a two trips together and spent a lot of fun time together
  • Work on and grow my business
  • Do some grooming classes to work on my grooming skills more
  • Raise and start showing Daphne – she currently needs just 4 singles to finish
  • Show Stillwater here and there – he has picked up some points

When you write down your goals you are making a specific plan to move towards. When you get to the end of the year you may find that you will be continuing with some of the goals you started this year. You may find that some are ongoing. You may find that some will be removed completely. In my case, one of the dogs on my list to finish last year will be on next years list to get health testing and breed her. It’s evolving and changing.

If you are interested in making a vision board of your own I recommend using an app like Canva which makes it very easy to create one. I keep my vision board here right by my desk and I will soon be taking this one down to start my new one. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!
