WHAT IT ISN’T

There are a lot of myths associated with positive reinforcement training. People that don’t understand it believe that positive reinforcement trainers simply throw treats at dogs all the time, do not discipline or install boundaries and let their dogs run wild only doing what asked when a treat is present. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Positive reinforcement training is used by the most successful and highly respected animal trainers in the world. Trainers that train animals far more challenging than dogs including exotic animals and dangerous animals know that positive reinforcement is generally the best way to train behaviors to a high rate of reliability. Just because pain, intimidation and unnecessary pressure is not used does not mean that dogs can’t learn, quite the contrary. Animals learn much better when they are feeling secure, safe and eager to work with you.
